our vision
A safe, connected family for every child.
our mission
To connect children in foster care to the families, individuals, and opportunities they need to heal and thrive.
who we are
At Crossroads, we believe every child deserves more than safety—they deserve connection, belonging, and the support of a caring family and community.
HOW THE WORK HAPPENS
At Crossroads, our vision is simple but powerful:
a safe, connected family for every child in Louisiana.
But vision alone doesn’t change lives. It takes intentional support, practical tools, and a community of people willing to step toward children and families with care.
That’s why our work centers around two key programs: Family Care and TBRI® (Trust-Based Relational Intervention).
FAMILY CARE
When a child enters foster care, it doesn’t just impact the child. It impacts the entire family caring for them.
Our Family Care team ensures that foster and adoptive families never have to walk that journey alone by providing connection, encouragement, and practical support to the families opening their homes to children in need.
This includes:
Recruiting foster families through partnerships with local churches
Monthly Family Fun Nights that build community and belonging
Teen groups that create safe spaces for youth to connect
Family Weekend and Family Camp experiences that strengthen relationships
Ongoing encouragement, prayer, and check-ins through our support network
These moments of connection matter. They remind families that they are part of a larger community walking with them. And when families feel supported, they are able to keep showing up for the children who need them most.
TBRI®
Trust-Based Relational Intervention
Children from hard places often carry the effects of trauma, loss, and instability. Understanding those experiences changes the way adults respond.
That’s why Crossroads is committed to equipping caregivers, churches, educators, and community leaders across sectors with trauma-informed tools that help children heal and thrive.
Trust-Based Relational Intervention® (TBRI), developed by the Karyn Purvis Institute of Child Development at Texas Christian University, provides practical strategies that help adults build safety, connection, and trust with children who have experienced adversity.
Through TBRI®, Crossroads works to expand trauma-informed care across Louisiana by providing:
TBRI® training across various sectors, including courts, schools, churches, and caregiving communities
Practical tools and coaching for adults caring for children impacted by trauma
Ongoing resources that help communities better understand and support vulnerable children
By equipping adults with the right tools and understanding, we are helping create environments where children feel safe, connected, and valued.
And when that happens, healing becomes possible.
THE RESULT
When families are supported and communities are equipped, children experience something every child deserves:
a safe, connected family.
And that changes everything.
connection camp
For one special week each summer, kids in foster care get the chance to attend a day camp created just for them. Crossroads’ Connection Camp combines all the fun of a traditional summer camp with something even more meaningful - the opportunity to connect with other kids who share similar experiences.
Through games, activities, and shared moments of FUN and CONNECTION, kids and teens build skills that help them develop healthy relationships and a strong sense of belonging.
While the kids are enjoying camp, foster and adoptive parents also have opportunities to connect with one another, share experiences, and grow in their ability to provide healing, supportive care.
Connection Camp has become one of our favorite weeks of the year - filled with laughter, encouragement, and powerful moments of connection.
One foster mom shared:
“The thing my children seemed to love the most was having their own camp counselor. The counselors made them each feel very safe and valued. My kids are still talking about them two weeks later.”
the hovick family
Laura Hovick worked for Crossroads several years ago. During her time on our team, a seed was planted. After finalizing the adoption of her daughter in 2025, we asked Laura to share a little bit about her journey.
Tell us about your decision to become a foster parent—what made you say yes?
I was sitting in a Foster Parent Info meeting at Crossroads as a relatively new employee, just trying to learn how everything worked. When I saw the statistics regarding the number of certified foster families versus kids in care my heart broke. In that moment, I felt God speak to me and I knew, without a doubt, that I would foster one day. Even though it didn't seem to make sense at the time, I knew I was meant to help. About 4 years later, I accepted my first kiddo.
You adopted Ana in 2025. What's something you'd love for us to know about her?
Ana is so much fun! She is a natural dancer and loves to sing; she can always get a party started with some karaoke.
Parenting has its ups and downs—can you tell us about a moment of joy on your foster parenting journey?
It is hard to choose just one, but one of my most joyful moments happened this past Christmas. I hosted a gathering where we invited Ana’s older sister, her Nanny, and her Parrain along with my extended family. Seeing both mine and Ana’s blended family together—interacting and embracing each other with such comfort—was heart warming. It felt like we’d always been one big happy family, and I loved that so much for all of us, especially for Ana.
What do you wish people knew about fostering?
I wish people knew that fostering is about loving others as we love ourselves. It isn’t about the fear of our hearts breaking if a child returns home; it’s about showing families the kind of sacrificial love God showed us. It’s about praying for healing in hopes of kids returning home, to safer more connected families, no matter how hard that transition may be. Providing a safe space and potentially changing the course of a child's life is worth every tear and every challenge. Ultimately, it’s not about how hard it is to let go, but about the love and impact you have while they are in your home.
What would you say to someone who is considering fostering but is hesitant?
If it is in your heart, it is there for a reason so DO IT!! Fostering has its challenges but so do friendships, marriages, and all relationships. Don’t let worry or fear stop you from impacting kids in care.
TBRI® in the community
“We must communicate the unwavering value of each child and establish a safe space and relationship in order to have any chance of meaningful change.”
Complex challenges require thoughtful, multifaceted solutions. Our partners at the Jefferson Parish District Attorney - Juvenile Division (JPDA) are demonstrating that commitment by developing innovative ways to support youth and families involved in the court system—approaches designed not only to address immediate challenges but also to help young people get their lives back on a positive trajectory.
JPDA has expanded its impact by providing specialized training to staff throughout the parish’s juvenile services system. In addition to training, they have partnered with the Rivarde Juvenile Detention Center to bring Nurture Groups directly into the detention facility. These groups create
opportunities for youth to build critical skills in emotional awareness, communication, and behavioral regulation - tools that can make a meaningful difference as they transition back to their schools, families, and communities.
JPDA has also introduced a new resource at Juvenile Court: the Calming Studio. Designed as a sensory-rich environment, the space allows youth to relax, engage in play, and regulate their emotions while navigating what can often be stressful legal proceedings. By providing a supportive and safe setting, the studio helps young people and their families manage difficult moments while remaining focused on the process ahead.
Through initiatives like these, JPDA continues to model how collaboration, innovation, and a commitment to youth-centered practices can strengthen the juvenile justice system and create new pathways for success.
CHURCHES MAKING A DIFFERENCE
Across Louisiana, churches are stepping into the foster care crisis in meaningful ways.
Through partnerships with Crossroads, churches help recruit new foster families by hosting Find Your Fit gatherings where people can explore how they might engage in foster care. Many support families through respite care, volunteer teams, and practical encouragement that help caregivers continue showing up for the children in their homes.
With more than 4,300 children currently in foster care in Louisiana, the need for safe and stable families remains great. When churches step into this work, foster families gain the support they need and more children experience the stability, connection, and care every child deserves.
Partnership Spotlight: First Baptist New Orleans
Crossroads is deeply grateful for our partnership with First Baptist New Orleans, whose generosity has helped make much of our work possible.
First Baptist provides office space for our team and regularly opens their campus for meetings, trainings, and connect gatherings that support foster families across our network. Their willingness to share their space has created countless opportunities for connection, encouragement, and community.
More than simply providing space, First Baptist has embraced the mission of caring for vulnerable children and families in our city. Their partnership allows Crossroads to equip caregivers, host events, and bring people together around the shared goal of helping children experience stability and belonging.
We are incredibly thankful for their partnership and the impact it continues to make.

who we are
At Crossroads, we believe every child deserves more than safety—they deserve connection, belonging, and the support of a caring family and community.
Across Louisiana, thousands of children enter foster care each year because their families are experiencing crisis. While foster care can provide safety in the moment, children heal best when they are surrounded by stable relationships and people who are committed to their well-being.
